Command - Push Notifications FAQs

If the alarm goes off when you’re not home, ADT will get a notification, but it’s also a good idea for you to get one, too. Here’s how to set up alerts for everyone you want via email, text or push notifications, using the ADT Control app:

  1. Log into the app and tap on the menu button
  2. Tap Notification.
  3. Tap +
  4. Tap Alarm
  5. Rename the rule
  6. Under When Alarm of type, tap to select the alarm types you want to be notified about
  7. In the Is reported by drop-down menu, tap to select which sensors you want monitored
  8. Tap + Add Recipients
  9. Tap the entries in the Address Book you want notified, or tap + Add Contact to add a new Address Book entry.

To create an alarm notification using the Control Portal:

  1. Log into the Control Portal
  2. Click Notifications
  3. Click + New Notification
  4. Click Alarm
  5. Name the new notification rule
  6. In When Alarm of type, click to select the alarm types you want to be notified about
  7. Using the Is reported by drop-down menu, select either:
    • Any Sensor to be notified about any sensor alarms
    • Specific Sensor to only be notified about specific sensors
  8. To choose notification recipients, click + Add Recipient
  9. Click the entries in the Address Book you want notified, or click + New to add a new Address Book entry

Of course, if you have an ADT Video Doorbell, you’ll want to know if someone is at your front door. You can set up notifications easily through the ADT Control app. Here’s how:

  1. Log into the app
  2. Tap on the menu button  and select Doorbell Camera
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Push Notifications
  5. Tap + Add
  6. Tap Doorbell Call
  7. Name the notification
  8. In For the selected devices, tap to select the desired Doorbell Camera
  9. In When the following event occurs, tap to select Motion, Button Pushed, or both
  10. You can further customize the notification if you want:
    • In During this time frame, tap to select At all times or Only during the following times to create a schedule for the notifications to follow
    • In Notification filtering, tap to select the desired filters
  11. Once you’ve finished customizing, tap + Add recipients if you want to add recipients other than yourself
  12. In the Address Book, tap to select the recipients you want notified, or tap + New Contact to add a new Address Book recipient.

Note: We recommend using push notifications (i.e., recipients with a phone icon next to their description) rather than an email or text notification. You can answer a doorbell call directly through a push notification.

At the end of the page, tap Close, then verify the notification is configured correctly. If it’s all good, tap Save and you’re done.

To verify events reporting using the app:

  1. Log into the app and tap on the menu button

Power cycle the push device

If you’ve taken all the preceding steps and there’s still an issue, the cellular connection of the push device may be unstable. Power cycle the push device to help establish a good cellular connection. If the push device can’t secure a stable cellular connection, you may need to to contact your cellular provider for additional troubleshooting.

Refresh the push device
