Ademco 5800CO Carbon Monoxide Detector

Wireless carbon monoxide detectors require battery replacement periodically. A low battery is indicated by a trouble condition on your system keypad.

Changing the battery in your carbon monoxide detector is quick and easy. If you have your replacement battery ready to go, you can follow these step-by-step instructions.

If you are not sure which battery you need, visit our sensor battery replacement page to find out.

Step-by-Step Instructions

To replace your carbon monoxide detector battery:

  1. Locate the zone where the low battery signal is coming from. Most systems will display a Trouble Condition and a zone number on the keypad.

  2. Put your system in test mode. This will result in a brief siren and beeping from your panel in 30 second intervals.

  3. Take the carbon monoxide detector off its base by turning the device cover counter-clockwise approximately 1/2 of an inch.

  4. Opening a Carbon Monoxide Detector

  5. Locate the Battery Compartment; there may be a door or plate covering it. Remove the old battery. Some devices may have two to three batteries. If this is the case, make sure you remove and replace all batteries at the same time.

  7. Wait at least 30 seconds before inserting the new battery. Pay close attention to the direction of the (+) and (-) signs to ensure proper installation.

  8. Reattach the carbon monoxide detector to the mounting bracket by lining up the marker on the body of the device with the marker on the base and turning the detector cover clockwise about half of inch.

  9. Test the device by pressing the Test button for about 10 seconds or until the siren sounds and the LED light starts blinking. The siren verifies that the carbon monoxide detector is working properly. Once the Test button is released, the siren will shut off and the red LED light will stop blinking.
