General Battery Help

A low battery warning is most often displayed as BAT, LOW BATT or SYSTEM LO BAT on the touchpad. This warning signals that your battery is low and must be either recharged or replaced.

ADT offers several battery-replacement options for our customers, including a self-service option on most systems and devices. A few easy steps will get you ready to replace a low battery.

A low battery warning is most often displayed as BAT, LOW BATT or SYSTEM LO BAT on the touchpad. This warning signals that your battery is low and must be either recharged or replaced. You can learn how to silence you specific panel by visiting our Silence Low Battery Beeping FAQ page.

NOTE:

A low battery message will remain as a reminder of the low battery condition until the battery is recharged or replaced.

The source of a low battery signal may be either the system backup battery, or it could be from a sensor, like a door sensor, smoke detector, or glass break sensor. While it varies from system to system, in general:

  • If a sensor has a low battery, the signal will be indicated with a zone number.
  • If there is no zone number, then it is likely that the system battery is low.

The system battery is a backup power supply. If you've experienced a recent power outage or if your system has been running on battery power rather than AC power for any reason, it may just need to be recharged. If the problem persists 48 hours after AC power has been restored, your battery should be replaced.

We can help you determine which kind of battery you need. Find out which battery type your system requires by checking our System Battery Replacement page or our Sensor Battery Replacement page. Or you can chat with a live agent by selecting the Chat Now button.

You can order the most common batteries on MyADT, or through many popular retailers like Amazon, BatteriesPlus, Target, Walgreens, and Walmart.
