6V System Battery Replacement Instructions
A 6V 1.2Ah or 6V 1.3 Ah sealed lead acid (SLA) rechargeable battery is used to operate the Simon 3 and Simon XT security systems. Either Ah rating can be used; however, always install a replacement battery of the same size and specifications as the old battery.
Not sure which battery you need? Check the battery compatibility page to find out which battery your system requires. Always install a new battery with the same specifications as the current battery.
You may purchase a new system battery at the following battery retailers: Batteries Plus, online at Walmart, Best Buy or Amazon.com; or you can log-in to purchase the battery on MyADT.com.
Remove Old Battery
- Put the system in test mode. Please refer to the Test Your System page for instructions.
- Remove the small retaining screw on the top of the unit.
- Press the locking tabs down with your fingers. Gently swing the keypad cover down. The front section, with the battery, will be hanging upside down. Note: when the keypad cover is open, the system may beep. This is normal.
Important: Hold the front panel of the keypad when opening to ensure it rests on the hinges.
Caution: Do not touch anything inside the keypad except for what is mentioned in these instructions.
- Examine the old battery for any damage, such as swollen or split casing, leaking liquids, heat, corroded terminals, etc. If there is no abnormal damage, proceed to step 5; otherwise, to schedule service, please call 1-800-ADT-ASAP.
- Remove the old battery by pressing the battery retaining clips away from the battery, then grasping the battery, pulling it forward, out of the unit.
- Disconnect the old battery.
- Pull the black wire connector from the battery terminal. The connector may need to be wiggled slightly for it to loosen and become disconnected.
- Pull the red wire connector from the battery terminal. The connector may need to be wiggled slightly for it to loosen and become disconnected.
Caution: Do not touch any metal objects to the terminals on the battery or to the open end of the black and red wire connectors.
Install New Battery
- If the new battery pack has a plastic protector over the terminal protectors, remove it before connecting the wires to the battery.
- Place the red wire connector onto the red positive (+) battery terminal of the new battery by pushing the connector firmly onto the terminals.
- Place the black wire connector onto the negative positive (-) battery terminal of the new battery by pushing the connector firmly onto the terminals.
- Insert the new battery into the battery compartment with the terminals at the bottom. Tuck the wires underneath the bottom retaining clip. Snap the battery into place between the retaining clips.
- Close the keypad front and ensure the two tabs snap into place.
- Check for a low battery signal on your system’s touchpad. If the low battery message is still displayed, pressing [STATUS] + [DISARM] should remove the notice. The new battery may need to charge for a short period of time before activating. If the warning persists 48 hours after the new battery installation, please call 1-800-ADT-ASAP for assistance.
- Perform a System Test to ensure your system is operating properly. When complete, remove your system from Test mode. Please visit Test Your System for complete instructions.
- Recycle the old battery. To find a recycler, visit Call2Recycle.org. Returning a to a recycler on this site is free of charge and will ensure that the battery is recycled according to regulatory requirements.
